The Healthy Diet
By "diet" I mean daily nutrition and eating habits. I'm no expert on nutrition, but I know enough to get by. Basically it all comes down to this:
Eat well, feel good.
Eat junky, feel like trash.
Generally, a balanced diet is the way to go.
If you need some help getting started, the USDA has a great website to help you eat healthy. Just take one of their tips every two weeks and stick it on your fridge.
Here is a short list of things you can do to eat better:
- Make half of your plate fruits and veggies
- Eat whole grains
- Vary your protein food choices
- Cut back on fat, sugar, and salt
- Eat the right amount of calories for your body. Calorie Calculator
(while pregnant, you typically add 300 calories to your normal daily value)
If you need an excuse to get more healthy food into your house, check out Bountiful Baskets (they have a FANTASTIC deal on produce). Also, if you qualify for WIC, it is a great source of FREE nutritious food (milk, eggs, peanut butter, cereal, fresh produce, etc.)
Feel free to add some of your favorite nutrition resources below.
