Week 15

Week 15

Baby's development this week:

-  Mobility in all joints and limbs
-  Eyebrows and hair
-  Eyes can now sense light
-  Bones are getting harder
-  Gender may be detectable by ultrasound

Add to your healthy diet this week:

-  A few more calcium-rich foods
-  Evaluate your Vitamin D intake

Some medical studies are showing that women who take calcium supplements have a higher risk of heart problems later on, and it can also cause constipation. It is usually better to eat foods with more calcium (so your body can take it when it needs it) rather than to bombard it with calcium supplements every day. If you and your doctor feel that you're not doing a good job at eating enough foods with calcium, then by all means, take the supplement. Calcium is very important for keeping your bones strong.

Vitamin D helps you absorb more calcium. Studies estimate that 40-75% of the population is deficient in this important vitamin. Your body can create it when your skin is exposed to the sun. However, many people have limited sun exposure due to sunscreen, limited time outside, etc.

Some signs that you may be deficient in Vitamin D are:

-  Bone pain
-  Muscle weakness
-  General fatigue
-  Easily depressed

It's very common for a pregnant woman to find out she is deficient. It is easy to find a supplement and many women notice that they feel better overall once they start taking it. Talk to your doctor to find out more about your Vitamin D intake.

This supplement is especially tasty:
